41 HEALTH WORKERS IN REGION 8 TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

TACLOBAN CITY (FYT, August 20, 2020) — Eastern Visayas logged a record-high number of COVID-19 cases on August 20, the Department of Health- Eastern Visayas said Thursday night.
According to DOH-EV, confirmed COVID-19 cases in the region surged to 1,918 — with 1,224, recoveries — after 97 new cases were reported on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, Catbalogan City Mayor Dexter Uy revealed he tested positive for COVID-19.
“Ha akon paniguro nga diri kita masudlan, hi ako pa an natapnan (I ended up getting infected despite my efforts to protect the city from COVID-19),” Uy said via Facebook Live.
Uy was among the 53 new cases in the capital of Samar province which the Department of Health-Eastern Visayas reported on Thursday night. Thirsty-six of the infected residents are health workers.
Breakdown of cases
Of the total laboratory results released by the Eastern Visayas COVID-19 Testing Center (EVRCTC) for the region, 486 tested negative while 76 tested positive.

Meanwhile, the Divine Word Hospital Virology Laboratory (DWHVL) released a total of 234 laboratory results. Of these, 200 who were tested were negative while 34 were positive for COVID-19 (with 21 new cases and 13 reswabs).
